A number of relevant bills have been introduced in the House and Senate. Some seek to address a wide range of communications-related issues, such as universal service, IP-enabled services, and intercarrier compensation. Others specifically target local franchising. NATOA has posted on its Web site a list of the amendments to the Stevens bill, S. 2686. On the front page, scroll down to the box on S2686 and click the link "Click Here for More Information"; then, under "US Senate Activity," click "List of Amendments for Senate Commerce Markup of S2686".
The National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA), in association with the Media Working Group, has produced a short documentary that explains the importance of the local role in the provision of communications in communities through cable franchising.
